WORDS TO LIVE BY
“There is at the back of every artist’s mind something like a pattern and a type of architecture. The original quality in any man of imagination is imagery. It is a thing like the landscape of his dreams; the sort of world he would like to make or in which he would like to wander, the strange flora and fauna, his own secret planet, the sort of thing he likes to think about. This general atmosphere, and pattern or a structure of growth, governs all his creations, however varied.”
― G.K. Chesterton

NEWS
Much like “A Little Taste Outside of Love”, the show at the Hayward is abundant with mixed-media works that reference old masters and Western art traditions, while featuring Black women in repose. Alongside these grandly scaled paintings, All About Love explores the breadth of Thomas’s oeuvre, which includes photography, installation, collage and video work. - Mickalene Thomas’ disruptive paintings of Black domesticity - via Dazed
Every piece in the exhibit draws a narrative as Wieland blends elements of animation, comics, and storyboarding. The foundations of her distinctive visual storytelling begin in the first room, with collage. The first few rooms showcase her early works of the late 50s and early 60s, including the faceless self-portrait, Myself (1958). Within this first room, the cardboard collages are experimental and full of wonder. It feels as if she was simply using the materials she had on hand, imbuing the work with a nostalgic and homemade quality. Her paintings in the first room are defined by bold-coloured backgrounds, wide strokes, and a spread of smaller illustrations and symbols. - Wieland exhibit at the MMFA wears its heart on its sleeve - via The Tribune
Though she would sometimes work on art projects with her mom and grandmother, creating was mostly a solo endeavor for Heimer. She would start with a paper background and make up stories with the paper figures she created. It’s similar to how she works now, arranging pieces one at a time in a way that makes many of her paintings look like collages with elements layered on top of each other. - Brushes with loneliness: Artist Andrea Joyce Heimer paints her way through her feelings and memories - via The Spokesman Review

Our 2025 Workbook is out and available for sale on our website. Our weekly creative challenge remains free and open to everyone and everything, digital or analog artists, French or not. The workbook is an optional add-on for those who prefer to work with paper and don’t want to print our images themselves. Like every year, the book is designed so that you can either take it apart or create your collages in the book itself. Week numbers and image sources are on the back of each image, so even if your books falls apart at one point, you will always know what’s what!
And last but not least, have a look at our second Instagram account Paris Collage Collective Unlimited where we showcase collages that have absolutely nothing to do with our weekly creative challenge.
