Hello and welcome to the latest Weekender!
There was not a lot going on in the world of collage this week, but thankfully we have our own news to share this time.
The catalogue for our Rachid Taha Open Call is finally, finally out and available on our website. It’s been ready for a while but we were waiting to get the exhibition and vernissage dates confirmed, something that was out of our hands.
70 artists made it into the book. 35 artists will be on show in Paris from 9 May to 3 June 2023, give or take a week (with a little luck we’ll get an extra week, fingers crossed). More and detailed information about the location & vernissage soon.
Again, many thanks to everyone who contributed to this open call, and apologies to the person, and there is always one, whose name we got wrong.
We hope you are as excited about this project as we are!

BOOK: What Kind Of Collage Is That? - by Katie Blake - The book features more than 270 Collage techniques and processes with definitions or descriptions from the artists and historians. The art we call Collage today dates back to at least as early at the 10th century with Wayang Kulit (arguably earlier with Tholu Bommatala), followed by 12th century Tsugigami, 13th century Quodlibets, and 14th century Commonplace books just to name a few. This versatile medium crosses format from text and textiles to sound and thought – each with a unique name and technique. What Kind Of Collage Is That? acts as a kind of thesaurus of techniques and their variations to offer artists, gallerists, and museums opportunities to better understand the rich history and current practice.
