“We can’t turn our true selves off and on situationally and expect them to carry and sustain us. Rationing creativity results in bipolarism of the spirit. Our creativity is also our life force. When we turn it off and on like a spigot, we start to become less and less able to control the valve.”

A very interesting article on collage - Le Collage, l’art de faire parler les images - in this month’s French Flow magazine, and yes, they mentioned Paris Collage Collective. Merci beaucoup
Powell relies on painting and drawing, and most importantly on collage techniques of cutting and pasting in various layers to obtain a diverse but inviting accretion of shapes, tones and colors. The collage aspect of “drawing” with cut paper, images, preprinted textures and colors, emphasizes the fractured and fragmented world that might be left to us, and the precarious challenges of a damaged land and mysterious collaborators - ‘Falsescapes’ Artist Powell’s collages ‘observe’ a speculative vision of the future - via The Reader
Even to the artist community and regular gallerygoers, the ownership transition has been nearly invisible. Burlington native Laxar, 38, maintains a studio at S.P.A.C.E., working in collage, ink and watercolor, and has been a gallery manager for nearly three years. Laxar is also the art curator for the South End Arts + Business Association — where Mitchell is executive director — and manages the annual Women's Festival of Crafts - Trading S.P.A.C.E.: A Gallery Changes Hands as Founder Christy Mitchell Pursues New Goals for the South End Arts District - via Seven Days
On many days, you can find Pixar Art Director Deanna Marsigliese creating characters for animated movies in her North Beach apartment. Sometimes she uses a pad and pen to sketch. Other times she uses bits of paper to make collages, that look a little familiar.
"I am my own muse," she said with a big smile. "I feel like any character I have designed for any animation project has me folded in some way. Even if it is not in form, it is figuratively in character and personality."

DIANA ELROD
In 2000, I left a full time government job and immediately had ideas about a collage I wanted to make. The result was a disaster! I took a few beginning classes in art such as elementary drawing and design and that helped get me started. After a while, I wanted to hone my skills so I enrolled in a certificate program in Studio Art at the Berkeley Extension. While I didn’t complete the program, I took a wide variety of classes, and still take classes here and there to learn new techniques.

BELINDA CROMBACH
An inspired visual thinker who likes to get lost in her imaginary worlds. Visual designer Belinda Crombach makes digital collages. She creates a new world with existing images, which she gives a new life. Belinda works without a route, idea or concept in advance, the whole picture appears in her head while she is making it. Themes such as love, desire and magic are reflected in her work. The images flow seamlessly together and make the viewer think or disappear.

MICHAEL HART WEBSTER
I began my career in experimental and commercial video editing and approach my artistic and collage practice with the eye of a video editor, treating each element in my artwork like an actor in a scene.
My work comes from a place between diary and dream where I present the seen and the unseen, the physical and the intangible, together. I capture changes within, whether It is a moment of self-growth, a moment of intuition, the feeling of being thirsty in the bath or the instant when an idea sparks.
I am constantly balancing the beautiful, absurd and familiar using emotions like hues on a colour wheel.

JULIETTE AYME
I started doing collages with my father when I was a kid. We used to spread out all the magazines we found on the floor and challenged ourselves to make something with the images we found. All my collages are still analog, sourcing from magazines, working with scissors, paper and glue. Each time I start a collage, I am unsure whether something will emerge, but I always end up matching color schemes and patterns, that suit my aesthetics. I'm really sensitive to the combination of colors and I put a lot of thought in the process of framing the collage when it needs to be exposed. Creating collages is a kind of meditation for me, I don't think about anything else and I can spend hours cutting, assembling and testing until I'm satisfied with the result. These days my cat is always around me when I am working.
