EXHIBITION: MORE OR LESS - Melbourne, Australia - September 3 -15, 2024 Creating art is usually a solo, and sometimes lonely, journey so to find another person with whom one immediately connects on an artistic level can prove to be an invigorating and inspiring experience. One that requires trust, respect and an open mind to whatever the collaboration reveals.
Lindesay Dresdon and Sheena Mathieson first met in May 2023, having been admirers of each other’s work for some time. Their common aesthetic and lively conversations about art and process lead to this exhibition of collaborative artworks.
‘We started this collaboration at the beginning of 2024. As a shared materials project, we exchanged a batch of papers and artworks which we then used to create individual works. These works developed and evolved during the year as we shared our observations and insights, and more materials.
The papers/surfaces were painted or printed upon or found from domestic sources. The limited palette was often challenging, but also liberating. Cut, torn and glued onto cardboard panels, the collage technique lent itself to our own intuitive and independent design work. More information here
In pursuing her visual and semiological research into the culture of consumerism, Beavers applies the technique of collage, which, as in its cubist and Dadaist origins, combines materials stemming from different contexts to coexist and draws new trajectories of meaning from their dialectic juxtapositions. For the artist, collage is both a way to confront the chaotic, random flow of images we are all overexposed to and to find new vocabularies with which to decode this flux and find some order. - Gina Beavers On Targeting Comfort in Consumer Culture in Her New Show - via Observer

In the same month that I meet Valentina Tereshkova, my grandmother moves into an old people’s home. When I visit her there, I find her sitting at a table and cutting up used greeting cards to make new ones. I watch as she maneuvers the scissors, causing little pieces of colored card to flutter down before she assembles them into a collage. My grandmother chats to me as she does this but she never tells me anything about her past, and about what — or whom — she left behind in Vienna. Our 2024 Workbook is out and available for sale on our website. Our weekly creative challenge remains free and open to everyone and everything, digital or analog artists, French or not. The workbook is an optional add-on for those who prefer to work with paper and don’t want to print our images themselves. Like every year, the book is designed so that you can either take it apart or create your collages in the book itself. Week numbers and image sources are on the back of each image, so even if your books falls apart at one point, you will always know what’s what!
