Hello and welcome to the latest Weekender.

It’s the first week of the last month of the year, and we hope you’re not as amazed as us at how fast this year is approaching its end. Our Rachid Taha Open Call has officially ended and we are sorting through hundreds of submissions from over fifty countries. A big Thank You to everyone who participated. Two big Thank Yous to everyone who labelled their images and release forms correctly. You rock! To everyone who hasn’t, we still love you :) We hope to announce the long-list of artists who made the catalogue before the end of the year (no worries, the way you labelled your image does NOT factor into the selection ;) Artists for the exhibition will be announced at the beginning of the year.

And now, without further ado, the latest collage news and inspiration.

Substack, this here newsletter platform, offers paid subscriptions, but this is no paywall. We believe in making art accessible to the widest possible audience, and our newsletter will remain free for anyone to read. Opting for a paid subscription is a way to support the collective and all we do. So is signing up to our Artist Directory. Think about it :)

  • Join a drop-in workshop by Sydney Collage Society this weekend where you’ll learn about different types of collage, using colour, texture, form and even image placement.  The workshops are open to all skill levels, so you can head home with your very own collage works and some newfound knowledge about various collage styles! More info here: Top 5 Things NOT to Miss at The Other Art Fair Sydney: December 2022 - via Canvas

  • Issue #15 of Contemporary Collage Magazine is out and available here

  • Exciting news from Kolaj. There will be a Kolaj Institute Open House on December 17, 2022 at 2pm EST. More info here.

  • Kolaj will also organize an in-person residency at MERZ Gallery in Sanquhar, Scotland centered on collage artists who seek to engage with place in their practice in community with other artists. Residents will make artwork for exhibition and a collaborative work. Early Deadline to Apply: 30 December 2022. More information here!

  • New collage exhibition at Gallery Collberg in Grenoble, this time by founder Michel Goldberg himself who, as far as we know, runs the only gallery exclusively dedicated to collage in the whole of France. Go show him some love!

  • A little reminder, our weekly creative challenge prompts remain free to download and the challenges themselves open for everyone to join, but if you prefer to work with paper, our 2023 Workbook is out and available here - If you’re looking for a Christmas gift that keeps giving, one year of community-supported creativity, the cut-off date for (somewhat) guaranteed pre-Christmas delivery is December 6. This is not a 100% promise, but anything ordered before that date should make it on time.

  • And last but not least, a selection of challenge submissions from last week is up on our website and can be seen here, the image prompt for next week is available to download here
